From George Graves, PocketMac Customer--"I was given an HP Jornada 548 color pocket PC a few months ago. Of course, to really be able to use one of these, it is necessary to be able to sync it with one's desktop computer. The Jornada comes with a Windows program called ActiveSync. This program does not work on Macs.

…[PocketMac] 3.2 is FANTASTIC. Not will it sync to the Jornada via USB, it also syncs via Bluetooth and 802.11. I don't have Bluetooth, but I do have wi-fi, so I tried it. Sitting in my easy chair in my living room, I switched-on the Jornada, went to the connection icon, tapped it, and instantly PocketMac launched itself on my desktop Mac and the two started to sync. I was elated! Not only That, but in the new version, PocketMac let you choose the applications to sync with and this includes iApps. I can pick Entourage or iCal for the scheduler function, and the Mac Addresses app for the contacts. One can also pick the Mac Mail app for managing E-mail, and ITunes for music, and iPhoto for pictures! Sunday, I went to the 2004 planning meeting for my Alfa Romeo Owner's Club, and I entered all of the clubs upcoming events for the calendar year of 2004 in my Jornada's scheduler. I came home and decided to up-link this info to my Mac so I could use it in the magazine. At first, I thought i would just uplink it as text, then, I thought, what the hell, lets see how this transfer process works with iCal (Ha!). I was flabbergasted. Not only did it sync-up in just a few seconds, when I went to 2004 in iCal all of the club's activities for next year were there in a new calendar category called "PocketMac"! Every date, every time, every location and every note from the Jornada were perfectly transferred to their correct places in iCal. Thus encouraged, I decided to see if I could download all of my contacts in the Mac Address Book to the Jornada. I went to preferences, chose Address Book as the Mac application and hit the sync button. When I was finished, every name, telephone number E-mail address, street address and note were not only now in my Jornada, but all of them are in the correct fields as well!

To say I'm impressed with this piece of software would be an understatement. PocketMac 3.2 makes interfacing a Windows CE Pocket PC with a Mac at least as easy as it is on it's native Windows PC platform. So far, the compatibility between the Pocket PC's apps and the Mac apps is as flawless as if they were made to interface with each other (which they weren't). I highly recommend this piece of software. If you have been somewhat reluctant to buy into the Pocket PC due to possible problems interfacing with your Mac, worry no more. This thing is darn near perfect!"

From Shawn J.P. West, PocketMac Customer--"I purchased a Siemens SX56 phone based on the 2002 version of Microsoft's Pocket PC software. I was thrilled with the functionality of the phone but wanted connectivity to the Mac and need to have software that was written for OSX. I purchased an early version of the Software and even though it was limited, it was way better than I expected. When 3.0 came out I updated immediately and was floored buy the improvements. version 3.0 exceeded my expectations. I was able to sync my address book, I was able to sync with I-cal, I was able to load new software all via my conduit. With only a minor update I was able to load the Apple theme on my phone.

All this without having to sync to purchasing a "PC". Thanks for making a wicked piece of software and backing it up with some kick ass support."

From Peter Smith, PocketMac Customer--"Add one more happy and amazed customer to your list. It is so simple I thought it couldn't work. Low and behold not only does it work but as a new Mac use who missed his PDA. I can assure potential customers. It is superior to Activesync. Eat your heart out Microsoft.

I love to see a product that does what it says. It's even better to have bought a product that does what it says and more."

MacWorld (August 2004)
In giving PocketMac Pro 4 out of 5 mice, MacWorld said...

"What a difference a year makes. PocketMac Pro is now a mature, simple, and feature-rich product. Click to install, restart, plug your PocketPC's cradle into the USB port (or activate a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection), and you're ready to sync. Version 3.3 provides two-way sync support for Apple's iCal and Address Book, Microsoft Entourage, and Now Software's Now Up to Date & Contact...PocketMac is a clear winner."

Pocket PC Magazine (June/July 2004)
Jim Karpen wrote...

"Installation of PocketMac was quick and easy...

I was able to go through the initial installation and use many of the main features without looking at the manual.

I was quite satisfied with PocketMac's ability to sync my Entourage data fast. The first time I synched my 950 contacts, the process took about 2 minutes. Synching the calendar also went smoothly.

I especially liked PocketMac's Web synching capability. It includes PocketMac Mobile Web, which is analogous to Mobile Favorites in Windows.

I also tried Avantgo and was impressed with that service. I can see why it's so popular and am now happy to be able to access it on the Pocket PC from my Mac.

One neat option of PocketMac is its ability to designate a Flash memory card as the location for synching where possible, such as putting photos on the card instead of into main memory.

...the application consistently works well...a good choice for Mac users."

SprintPCSInfo.com (June 15, 2004)
The first review they ever did was for PocketMac Pro 3.3. They wrote...

"The interesting design of PocketMac is something that is worth talking about. Instead of implementing a seamless one-click-no-options  zero-configuration system, similar to other programs for Mac, PocketMac provides an experience that is much more similar to Microsoft's ActiveSync.

PocketMac is so good Microsoft should buy it and re-brand it as ActiveSync for Mac. Really, it's that good.

Before PocketMac, I would tell Mac users to have some form of Virtual PC or some old PC laying around if they wanted to own a Pocket PC, but PocketMac handles just about every situation that you would need a PC to fix or handle or install something. The best part is, they let you try it before you buy."

MacWorld France (February 2004)
MacWorld France awards PocketMac Pro 4 out of 5 stars.

PC Magazine (February 17,  2004)
PC Magazine awards PocketMac Pro 4 out of 5 stars.

"...the release of PocketMac 3.0 should have Mac fans taking a hard look at Pocket PC 2003-based or Smartphone-based models the next time they purchase a handheld.

One of the joys of PocketMac is how well it works with standard Mac applications. During installation, it adds a folder to your default web browser bookmark list, where you can save web pages that you want synched later.

And Mac users who are allergic to anything Windows will love the optional theme which gives the Pocket PC interface a Mac OS look."

MacHome Magazine (January  2004)
In awarding PocketMac Pro 4 out of 5 apples, MacHome said...

"PocketMac 3, which began life as a shareware-like product we originally covered in our "Mobile Mayhem" feature (pages 28-37, June 2003), looks and functions more like Apple iSync. That's good news for Mac users who happen to prefer the PocketPC platform over the more Mac-friendly Palm OS.

PocketMac 3 provides several new features. Chief among them is an ever-growing list of compatible device drivers, providing support for about 20 different PPCs. PocketMac now supports Bluetooth in addition to USB and Airport wireless connections. The upgrade is much more aware of all the different methods people use to keep their lives organized. Sync support for Microsoft Entourage, just about any Apple iLife application and even a couple of third-party information managers (such as Now Contact) make the product much more useful.

We liked opening Pocket Word and Pocket Excel documents directly on our Mac, editing them and saving them back to the Pocket PC without moving the files back and forth. PocketMac 3 is a real time-saver, which is especially important to those of us who carry way too many mobile devices around and still want to sync them up with our Macs. PocketMac does make life easier..."

Pocket PC Magazine (May 2003)
Jim Karpen wrote...

"Setting up PocketMac Pro is fairly simple. Install the software on your Mac and then set the preferences, which let you choose the particular Mac program you will be synchronizing with.

...synchronizing data went well for me.

...I had no trouble synching my 900 contacts.

...the PocketMac team has put a lot of time into it [PocketMac Pro], and even though they're a small company they try hard to offer good technical support.

As a Mac user who has longed to have my Pocket PC communicate and sync with my PowerBook, I'm grateful for the efforts of the PocketMac team and am delighted to have this software."
